Foundation Banquet Raving Success!

Thanks to the entire FitWit Nation, volunteers, area sponsors, Zoo Atlanta and Foundation staff- the FitWit Banquet was a great celebration for another year of FitWit and FitTeens. Held at Zoo Atlanta this past Sunday evening- (yes even with flurries and wind) well over 170 FitWitters, friends and guests attended a delicious dinner from “Six Fee Under” and made bids on over 100 items for the Foundation Silent Auction.

In addition to the evenings festivities, guest speakers- FitTeen Stephany E. and Ms. Erica Hall- from Maynard Jackson High School- thanked FitWit for the opportunity to attend FitTeens and what an impact it has had on their lives.

Another year of fitness, health, empowerment, connection and community!

Gary Taubes New Book and Blog

FitWit has been a fan of Taubes for a while.  Taubes diligently seeks out the why of obesity.  Why do people take in more energy than they expend?  Or more to the point, why do people not expend the energy they’ve taken in? That is to ask, what mechanisms are at work that promote energy storage and suppress utilization of stored energy?  The answers to these questions are far more complicated than “calories in; calories out.”

Fitness is Biblical

Found this in my reading yesterday:

Sirach 30:14-17 (NRSV)

14  Better off poor, healthy and fit than rich and afflicted in body.

15  Health and fitness are better than any gold, and a robust body than countless riches.

16  There is no wealth better than health of body, and no gladness above joy of heart.

17  Death is better than a life of misery, and eternal sleep than chronic sickness.
