Our People…
The FitWit Foundation (TFF) began in 2008 with a group of people committed to fitness and improving the lives of children in the Metro-Atlanta area.
Ben Thoele
President and Director
After separating from the Air Force in 2007, Ben moved to Atlanta to help found The FitWit Foundation with his good friends Josh and Erin Guerrieri. Ben sees fitness as “one of the only things in life where you can succeed just by trying. You don’t have to be good at it–you just have to try.” Ben is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a CrossFit Level I certified trainer. Ben also earned a MS in Operations Research from the Air Force Institute of technology. He played NCAA Division III football and track at Wittenberg University. Ben also serves as a high school strength and conditioning coach. He provides the overall vision of the Foundation as well as the day to day management of Foundation business. He learns daily from Josh, Erin, Michelle, and the FitTeens participants.
Josh Guerrieri
Vice President/Treasurer
Tutoring Program Director
Certified with the American Council on Exercise, Josh has been training for six years and founded FitWit, LLC in 2005 with his wife, Erin. He brings, not only his knowledge of personal fitness and exercise, but a strong athletic background that serves as a guidepost for his instruction. Josh was a two-sport athlete in college, playing both basketball and track & field. He was a three-time conference champion in the decathlon, setting both school and conference records in the event. This accomplishment earned him Academic All-American honors and the opportunity to compete at the NCAA National Championships. From 2001-2007, Josh taught social studies at Washington High School in Atlanta, Ga., earning STAR teacher of the year honors as well as obtaining his National Board Certification. Also while at Washington, he served as a head coach for basketball, track & field, and cross-country.
Erin Guerrieri
Board Secretary
A native of the Buckeye State, Erin moved to Atlanta in 2001 to pursue a career in public relations. After a few glamorous years in media relations and event planning, she became a not-so-glamorous special education teacher in the Atlanta Public School system. Having witnessed poor attention to physical health in the school system, and having such a strong appreciation for her and her husband Josh’s own opportunities in the athletic/sports arenas, she says that “Josh and I really wanted to find a way to give inner city youth the opportunities we had.” Having started FitWit a few years prior, The FitWit Foundation seemed a natural next-step. Currently, Erin is a part-time special education coordinator for a charter school. She and Josh and have three awesome children. While Erin’s work for the foundation varies, most of what she does falls into the fundraising promotions and events category.
Michelle Woods
FitTeens Program Director
Michelle joined The FitWit Foundation in January of 2009 and brings a diverse non-profit background to the core mission of the Foundation. Michelle’s education includes a BS in Health Science as well as a BA in English. Michelle is also Certified Fitness Training. Before her role with the Foundation, Michelle served as State Director for Special Olympics Georgia where she supervised year-round sports training to over 120 counties throughout the state. Michelle offers over ten years of experience in youth wellness initiatives, community outreach programs and successful school programs aimed at “engaging” youth to become healthier. Michelle finds inspiration daily from the teens and teachers who participate in the FitTeens fitness program. “We are giving them tools that will teach them to live longer, healthier, quality lives, well beyond a six week camp”, says Michelle, “How would I not want to be a part of something so much bigger than just a job?”
